Andrea 639 (Brescia, 1994) graduated with a degree in New Technologies of Art at Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan in 2016.
He has participated in group exhibitions and numerous festivals and is active both nationally and internationally.
Andrea’s artistic practice evolves from a constant dialogue between direct experience and studio practice: travel, exploration, and physical contact with places become the driving force behind his work, fueling a process in which each piece is the result of what has been seen, experienced, and touched. His work is built on a dynamic relationship between the internal and the external. On the one hand, “outside” production represents a moment of discovery and adaptation, in which the context—with its material and technical limitations—becomes both a constraint and a creative stimulus. On the other hand, studio work reworks these experiences into more structured forms, transforming memory into image. Nova develops a practice strongly tied to technique, understood as a fundamental tool of expression. The use of different tools—from the roller for building up the background to the spray can for lines and outlines—is not bound to the medium itself, but to the possibility of achieving a coherent and recognizable result. Technique thus becomes a “language”: a skill that allows the artist to translate visions and perceptions into form.
In his work, boundaries—whether geographical, material, or technical—do not represent an obstacle, but rather a generative condition. The need to adapt to different contexts, to the availability of tools or colors, leads to continuous experimentation and a redefinition of the artistic gesture.
Andrea’s work occupies a space suspended between reality and perceptual alteration, between “this world” and “another world,” where concrete experience transforms into an almost hallucinatory, surrealistic dimension, while maintaining a strong grounding in practice and making.
Andrea 639 is a visual artist who works across painting and site-specific interventions, developing a practice centered on the relationship between gesture, surface, and space. His practice spans various media—paper, canvas, and walls—while maintaining an expressive coherence that manifests equally in both standalone works and environmental interventions.
He prefers to use brushes and spray cans, tools that allow him to alternate between control and impulse, layering and immediacy. His visual language is built through bold strokes, intense fields of color, and textural tensions that interact with the canvas, transforming it into an active part of the creative process. Acrylic and spray paint represent two complementary modes: the former allows for sedimentation and depth, while the latter introduces speed, instinctiveness, and an urban dimension that breaks with the traditional composure of painting. The mark does not describe, but affirms a presence; color does not fill, but constructs rhythm and breath.
In site-specific works, the artwork expands beyond the support to enter into direct dialogue with architecture, space, and the urban context. Each intervention thus becomes an act of listening and restitution, a balance between intention and context.
The artist’s research stems, therefore, from the need to explore the boundary between gesture and space. The surface, whatever it may be, is never neutral, but becomes a field of relationship and tension.
